THE first ever St Piran League East fixtures gets underway tonight with the division’s four Post area clubs involved on the opening weekend.

Near neighbours Bude Town and Morwenstow as well as the reserve teams of Callington Town and Launceston will compete.

Callington, who, like Launceston were mid-table in the East Cornwall Premier in 2018/19, lost 5-0 to Illogan RBL on Sunday in the Charity Bowl at Wadebridge, but are back at Bodieve Park to face their Bridgers counterparts tomorrow night before they head to Torpoint Athletic Reserves on Tuesday night (6.30pm).

Their first match at Ginsters Marsh is at home to Launceston on Tuesday, August 24 before welcoming Saltash United four days later.

Bude, who will take to the field under the new management of Josh Allen, were in Division One (West) of the South West Peninsula League, but stayed at Step Seven when the SWPL, which was previously a Premier and Division One (West) and Division One (East), was spilt into Premier West and East.

They are one of only six first teams in the division with the other ten being reserve teams of clubs in the SWPL.

The Seasiders start with a tough home game against last year’s East Cornwall League double winners St Austell Reserves on Saturday (3pm) before heading to Launceston on Tuesday night (7.30pm).

With five fixtures in August, Bude welcome Millbrook Reserves next Saturday before going to Wadebridge Town Reserves (August 28) and Saltash Borough (August 31) to round off the month.

Morwenstow are at Step Seven after finishing as runners-up in East Cornwall Division One last year and will be looking to finish in mid-table under boss Dean Davis.

The derby dates with Bude are set for Boxing Day and Good Friday.

They are at home on the last three Saturdays in August against St Mawgan, St Dennis Reserves and Polperro but have midweek trips to contend with at Wadebridge Town Reserves, Launceston Reserves and Liskeard Athletic on August 20 and 27 and September 4.

Six of Launceston’s opening eight games are away from home with only Tuesday night games against Bude Town and Morwenstow at Pennygillam.

They start at Saltash Borough on Saturday before making the short trip to Callington seven days later. They end August by going to Millbrook.
