North Devon Football League round-up – Saturday, January 10
HOLSWORTHY Reserves’ hopes of winning the Brayford Cup are over for another year following a 2-1 defeat against AFC Dumnonii at Ilfracombe Town.
The Magpies made the long trip to the top of the county having not played in the league since October 25, but despite Harry Grigg netting at Marlborough Park, it was the home side that went through.
Bottom side Morwenstow, who were comfortably beaten 4-0 by neighbours Hartland a week earlier in the Premier, were one of three teams to be given a bye through to the last eight and welcome Holsworthy on Saturday in a crucial game for both.
Senior Division leaders Bradworthy maintained their perfect start with a 12th victory from as many starts at Merton.
Tom Shadrick scored twice inside the first 15 minutes before goals three and four arrived from centre-back Carlo Chandler as the Horniwinks led 4-0 at the break.
Shadrick grabbed his hat-trick early in the second half, before Tai Wonnacott and Niall Slade rounded off the visitors’ scoring.
Merton got a late consolation with five minutes to play but the Bradworthy train shows no signs of slowing down.
Shebbear welcomed Bideford Reserves in the Senior Division Combe Martin Cup, but were beaten 4-0.
Ewan Westwood (18) and Joshua Holmes (41) gave the Robins a cushion at the break before George King (76) Holmes and (86) put the icing on the cake.
Sheb are back at home next Saturday when they welcome Shamwickshire Rovers Reserves (2.30pm).
Both Holsworthy Thirds and Morwenstow Reserves were knocked out of the Intermediate One Arlington Cup on Saturday.
Goals from Holsworthy’s Rory Piper and Gary Brownjohn were trumped by Keith Cornish’s brace and sub Jamie Wood at Hartland Reserves, while at Morwenstow, the hosts lost by the same scoreline despite Phil Horton’s brace against Equalizers.
