TRURO City made it a hat-trick of league wins in a row as they saw off bottom side Slough Town 3-1 last night in National League South.
The Tinners, who fought back from 3-1 down early in the second half at Hampton & Richmond on Saturday, trailed again at the break, but once Tom Tweedy equalised, further goals from Harvey Greenslade and top-scorer Tyler Harvey sent the majority of the 2,024 crowd home happy.
It sets up a mouthwatering date with table-toppers Ebbsfleet United, who are one point ahead, at the Truro City Stadium on Saturday (3pm).
Boss John Askey started with the same 11 that finished off the Hampton & Richmond thriller as Zac Bell, Ben Starkie and Greenslade were rewarded for their impact, as Shaun Donnellan, Tom Dean and Jack Stretton made way.
Keen to continue that momentum, Truro swarmed all over the Berkshire outfit from the start with Bell and Starkie combining inside three minutes to draw a save out of Killian Barrett.
Soon after, Barrett flapped at a Tom Harrison cross which saw Harvey see his effort cleared off the line before Tweedy was denied and Luke Jephcott couldn’t get quite get to the rebound.
However, after Starkie headed over, Slough went up the other end to score on the counter-attack. Home appeals for offside fell on deaf ears as Kyle Brooks slotted past Aidan Stone.
Truro responded well as Harrison headed Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain’s throw against the post, while Greenslade twice had efforts that ultimately came to nothing.
More Cornish pressure at the start of the half eventually saw them draw level on 53 minutes as winger Tweedy fired in a fine drive, and the turnaround was complete inside 90 seconds as Greenslade leaped to flick the ball in ahead of Barrett’s punch.
Despite the Rebels now having to come out in search of a leveller, Truro were rarely troubled and got the match-clinching third when Harvey headed in a corner with 15 minutes to play.
