Cornwall Airport Newquay Duchy League round-up

ALTHOUGH five matches involving Post area clubs fell foul of the weather, plenty of fixtures went ahead across the Duchy League.

In the Premier, Altarnun skipper Sam Wade scored the only goal as they beat leaders Gunnislake in a hard-fought battle at Tresibbett.

On a day where residents and staff at Bowden Derra Park nursing home came to watch, the hosts put in an excellent performance.

The first-half saw both sides go at it with challenges flying in from all angles, however it remained goalless.

However, the hosts gradually got on top and Wade scored the winner with 15 minutes to go, as a header was put to the back-post where he was waiting to sidefoot into the corner.

Altarnun continued to press and were denied a second by a fine save.

Stoke Climsland were a little fortunate to get the 2-1 win in their derby match at Saltash United Thirds. The first-half was evenly contested with Rob Eddie giving the visitors the lead from the penalty spot. Saltash hit back to equalise just before the interval with a neat header from Troy Harris. Saltash dominated large parts of the second-half with the only goal coming against the run of play from Andrew Spokes. Try as hard as they could, Saltash were unable to force an equaliser.

Tintagel picked up just a second point of the season from a 1-1 home draw with high-flying St Breward, but were still disappointed as they had the vast majority of the play. Harley Westlake scored for Tintagel with Matt Hamley replying for St Breward.

Pensilva eased away from the Division One relegation places with an 8-1 thrashing of FC Tavyside. Jack Penhaligon hit a hat-trick with Sam Rogers and Stuart Anderson adding a brace apiece. Barry McConnell was the other home marksman with Mark Lewis hitting the visitors’ consolation.

Lostwithiel Reserves gave up home advantage with their own ground unfit to play their Division Two match with Southgate Seniors on the 4G pitch at Launceston College. Southgate ran out 5-1 winners with Adam Scott, Craig Charnock, Josh Barron, Anthony Coles and Wayne Francome getting a goal apiece.

Leaders Nanpean Rovers had an emphatic 8-0 win at North Hill. Jordi Willmott and Scott Brown each hit a hat-trick, with Luke Truscott and Reece Willmott completing the rout.

In Division Three with Biscovey’s ground unfit, their game was reversed to Gunnislake. An amazing game ensued with nine goals in a frantic first-half with Gunnislake Reserves going into the break 5-4 up. However, they were unable to hold the advantage and Biscovey hit back with two second half goals to win 6-5. Gary Camps scored a brace for Biscovey with Jacob Adams, Luke Tregidgo, Matt Waller and Jordan Barnard adding a goal apiece. Gunnislake’s scorers were Andy Brown with two, James Andrews, James Skinner and Darren Sambells.

Delabole United move up to third after beating North Petherwin reserves 2-0 with a goal in each half. Dan Edwards and Sam Turner were the scorers.

In the Shoe Boy League Cup, Division Two Boscastle Reserves won the shootout to top Group D beating Grampound 5-2 at Forrabury Park.

Johnny Strout was the hero of the day, getting four of the goals. Skipper Jason Seldon added the other Boscastle goal with Dean Dunn and Ryan Morcom replying for Grampound. Boscastle progress to a home tie in the last 16 whilst Grampound will have to settle for an away draw.
