WEST HOCKEY LEAGUE WOMEN’S TRELAWNEY DIVISION ONE
Bude 1 St Austell 3
BUDE put in a fine team performance, but were still beaten 3-1 by high-flying St Austell in Trelawney Division One.
The Seasiders started with Racheal Pomeroy in goal, supported by a strong defensive line of Naomi Hatcher, Emily Smart, Tilly Collins and Elsa Edwards, who really stepped up and worked relentlessly under pressure.
The midfield were equally impressive, with EJ Biggadike, Mia Flynn, Izzy Sobey, Charlotte Kingdon and Caroline Hockridge raising their intensity, linking play well and driving the team forward throughout the match.
Up front, Chloe Hall, Charlotte Prime and Niamh Turner applied constant pressure on the St Austell defence.
From the first whistle, Bude matched St Austell’s pace and physicality. Despite sustained pressure from the visitors, the defensive unit held strong, with Pomeroy making important saves and the back line working tirelessly to deny opportunities. At the other end, Bude attacked with intent, forcing the Saints into mistakes and forcing the opposition into a few nervy moments. The intensity and work-rate of the whole team was reflected in St Austell receiving three green cards despite them taking the lead.
The second half saw Bude come out fighting, determined to find an equaliser.
Hall came close on several occasions but just couldn’t quite find the back of the net. Prime was outstanding, running through defenders, creating chances and winning multiple short corners. The pressure finally paid off when Kingdon finished confidently to bring the score to 1-1.
As the game went on, tired legs began to show, but Bude continued to battle until the final whistle, that despite St Austell netting twice late on to take the victory.
Bude are back in action on Saturday when they head to Camborne School of Mines with a 10.15am pushback.
