EVERY race is an achievement, but over the past couple of months several of the Launceston Road Runners have gone above and beyond with some truly inspiring efforts.
From March 21-22, Kevin Marshall and team-mate Danny Wood took part in the European Hyrox Championships (combined running/workout) where they broke the world record for the 60-64 age category in a time of one hour, one minutes and 14 seconds. From April 6 to 8, Peter McAughey ran 100 miles from Ilfracombe to Plymouth to raise money for Future Pillars Zambia. Andy Corbett raised money for Calvert Devon and the Injured Jockeys Fund by running a "Marathon Month Challenge" which totalled 351 miles in 26 days. Amazing work everyone!
Meanwhile other club members have continued to rack up the mileage across a whole host of races. On April 12, Emma Jasper earned a PB at the London Landmarks Half Marathon; Martin Venning ran the Pen Selwood 10k in Wincanton; and David Thomson, Angela Brinicombe and Vikki Savage completed the demanding Dartmoor Marathon.

Ian Grimes and Janet Lathom ran the Tavy 5K on April 18 with Ian getting a PB, while Jackie Chapman came third in her age category at the Run Like Hell 8 Miler at Hell’s Mouth, Camborne. Meanwhile Joe Thomson continued to inspire by finishing fourth overall in the Devon Coast to Coast 112-mile race from Wembury near Plymouth to Lynmouth in the north with a (literally) blistering time of 26:46:27.
The next day saw Jeanette Johnson and Katie Fowler take part in the Manchester Marathon, with Jeanette coming second in her age category. Closer to home, Jenny Mills finished first in her age category at the Bodmin Beast Marathon, while Jesse Coombes, Gary Heywood and Raoul Grantham ran the Beastly Half.

Saturday, April 25 saw Nick Smith run The Smugglers Way 37-mile race from Boscastle to Looe, finishing second in his age category. At the London Marathon, the club was represented by Andy Corbett, Vin Marshall and Lorraine Hawkins, with Vin earning an impressive “Good For Age” result.
The Bank Holiday Weekend (May 2-4) saw Peter and Emma James run the East Grinstead 10-Miler, Haywards Heath 10-Miler and the Burgess Hill 10K in West Sussex. The same week saw Peter McAughey, Ian Grimes, Jackie Chapman and Gabby Lyons run the picturesque Boconnoc 5 Mile race, while Jenny Mills and Raoul Grantham completed the Saltash Half Marathon, with Jenny coming first in her age category. Lewis Halliday also gained a PB at the Exeter Marathon.
At the Rye Summer Series 5K in East Sussex on May 8, Peter Mander set a new club record for the 85-88 age group, and on Sunday the 10th, Martin Venning came fourth in his age category at the Bristol 10K. The club was well represented at the Trevornick 10K in Newquay by Andy Corbett, David Thomson, Eddie Thomson, Michaela Barron, Matt Pickard, Joanne Yeo, Stuart Armstrong, Martin Hynes, Ian Grimes and Angela Brinicombe, with David, Michaela, Stuart and Martin all finishing second in their age categories, while Ian was third in his.
This past Sunday in Plymouth, Jon Kappes, Chris and Katie Fowler, Angela Brinicombe and Gabby Lyons completed the city’s half marathon, while Stuart Armstrong, Lena Cowling, Ian Neale and Sarah Lawless ran the 10K. Congratulations to everyone for this tremendous set of results over the last couple of months!
