MEMBERS of Launceston Road Runners have continued to rack up the miles – and podium finishes – during the recent fine weather.

The last week of May saw Ian Grimes take second place in the M70-74 age category at the Gribbin 10K with a time of one hour, six minutes and 30 seconds. The event takes place around the Menabilly Estate near Fowey and is run by St Austell Running Club.

On the same Saturday (May 30), the Burrator 10K saw four runners – Andy Corbett (45:15), Michaela Barron (47:59),Ann Barriball (53:45) and Raoul Grantham (53:55) – complete the event with Ann also finishing second in the Female Vet 50 section.

Rounding off the month, Martin Venning finished the Buckland Brewer 10K with a time of 1:16:19.

June got off to a racing start with the Bodmin Blue Light 10K. David Thomson was the fastest of the LRR members in 51:33 with Peter McAughey (59:54), Ian Neale (1:18:29), Lena Cowling (1:30:30) and Sarah Lawless (1:30:31) also taking part.

At the Oke Croak 10-mile fell race on June 7, Joe Thomson finished third in the M35-39 age category with a time of 1:33:05, while the club were well represented at the ever-popular six-mile Bude Lifeboat Run on June 10.

The results were: Joe Thomson (41:35), Ben Hawke (47:02), Peter McAughey (51:45), Andrew Simpson (56:35), Ian Grimes (1:00:24), Linda Pickard (1:01:08), Angela Brinicombe (1:01:17), Martin Venning (1:12:42), Jo Bailey (1:16:29),Gabby Lyons (1:16:29) and Lorraine Hawkins (1:17:28). Angela was first in the F65-69 age category, while Joe (M35-39)and Ian (M70-74) were third in theirs.

At the Scilly 60% (42km variant) on June 12, Dave Thomson (M60-64) finished in six hours, 10 minutes and 50 seconds, while the Meet Your Max 10K in Truro on June 17 saw Linda Pickard cross the line in a time of 1:11:56 (F65-69), both securing third in their age categories.

At the Siblyback Lake "Siblython" on June 20, runners completed as many laps of the lake as they could in eight hours. Angela Brinicombe completed 10 laps (48km), Lewis Halliday, Elaine Hill, Vikki Savage and Jo Bailey nine laps (43.2km) and Kayley Tucker six laps (28.8-km).

Club results for the end of June and beginning of July featured two races of the Cornish Grand Prix Series, and plenty of competitors representing the club.

The St Agnes Five Miler on Wednesday, June 24, was notable for sweltering almost 30-degree temperatures; despite which Launceston runners all finished under an hour in the following times: Andy Corbett (35:58), Michaela Barron (38:55), Matt Pickard (39:45), Ian Grimes (48:00), Martin Hynes (51:11), Linda Pickard (51:31) and Dave Pickard (54:38). Michaela (F35-39) and Ian (M70-74) were both third in their respective age categories.

At the ‘Magnificent 7’ in Saltash on Sunday, July 5, the club achieved the following results via Darren Evans (50:53), Dave Thomson (53:31), Lewis Halliday (57:31), Michaela Barron (58:44), Matt Pickard (1:00:22), Jenny Mills (1:03:59), Stuart Armstrong (1:04:35), Ian Grimes (1:08:01) and Angela Brinicombe (1:13:28).

Jenny was first in her age category – the F75-79 section – while Michaela was second in hers (F35-39).
