Football and rugby clubs in the Cornish Times area may not have had much game time on Saturday, but there’s still six pages of top quality local sport on offer.

We report on Bodmin Town’s new assistant boss Rich Haydon being reunited with former Saltash United manager Dane Bunney at Priory Park after choosing to leave Holsworthy.

Although games involving Saltash United, Millbrook and Torpoint Athletic in the Western League Premier Division all fell foul of the weather, in SWPL Premier West, promotion hopefuls Liskeard Athletic welcomed leaders Wendron United but the Blues went down 3-2 as well as having key midfielder Max Gilbert red-carded late on. Inside is a report from Lux Park as well as summaries on St Dominick’s draw with Saltash United Reserves in St Piran League East and St Stephen’s clash with St Newlyn East in the East Cornwall  Premier League.

At youth level there is great news for Biscovey Youth Fotoball Club who have been given nearly a £1,000 by Devon and Cornwall Police towards new kit and equipment. We hear from the police and club officials on the project.

In the rugby union, there was frustration for local clubs. While Bodmin’s trip to Helston in Counties Cornwall Two was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, title hopefuls Saltash were awarded a walkover by neighbours Liskeard-Looe in the same division. However the clubs – with Saltash lending the hosts a few players – agreed to play a friendly at Lux Park which the Ashes won 85-0. 

Slightly up the higher pyramid, Exeter Chiefs welcomed Northampton Saints in the Gallagher Premiership at the weekend. Nigel Walrond’s report from the game is inside.

One sport not affected by the weather was the hockey with four of Caradon’s senior teams in action. They all came away winners with reports and pictures inside.

It might be winter but the Cornwall Cricket League season is now less than 14 weeks away. The divisions for next season have been confirmed. Inside is Michael Weeks’ report.
