ACTIVIST, founder of #2minutebeachclean and author of ‘No. More. Plastic.’ Martin Dorey form Bude has written a follow up book sharing the simple, most impactful ways people can reduce their planet-suffocating waste.

In his new book ‘No. More. Rubbish. Excuses.’, out now, Martin looks at what people recycle, what they bin, what is taken to the tip — plastics, food, clothing, electricals and furniture — where it goes and what it really does to the planet.

Martin said: “The plastic landscape is changing so quickly and we are seeing constant changes, often resulting in confusing and disparate messages. Some ‘solutions’ may cause more problems than they answer so I wanted to write the book to help people navigate the post-Blue Planet 2 world. It can be a difficult place for those who want to do the right thing but don’t know where to start.”

Martin’s hometown of Bude has been a great inspiration to him as the community is proactive in the fight against waste. He said: “Bude is a fantastic place to be an environmentalist as there is so much going on and so many people committed to making a difference. Bude has a waste-free shop, a community orchard with native varieties, green councillors, inventors looking to solve plastic problems, has been a pilot for Environment Agency projects in the form of Cleaner Seas, has spawned the ReFill revolution and the #2minutebeachclean and has been the scene of dawn until dusk beach cleans. It’s also long been a place of direct, community action via Widemouth Task Force, Bude Rubbish Action Group and more. Our council has declared a Climate Emergency and things are getting done, which is amazing. And a lot of the things I’ve learned from being a part of it have been translated into this book. So yes, inspiration is all around.”

Martin’s aim is for this second book to inspire change and get more people thinking about waste reducing measures they can implement in their own home. Martin offers simple, impactful ways (#2minutesolutions) to cut down waste and why they make a big difference. People can help save the planet, and it only takes two minutes.

He said: “I hope that it will inspire change in as many as people as possible, because that’s what we need right now. I want it to be rabble rousing, thought provoking and inspiring. If it reaches a few people, who then reach a few others the ripples will continue to travel far and wide.”

Martin is a writer, surfer and beach lover. He founded the BeachClean Network with Tab Parry in 2009 and started the#2minutebeachclean in 2013 after North Atlantic storms left UK beaches littered with plastic rubbish. It’s a simple, effective idea — pick up beach litter for two minutes, bag it, tag it, bin it — and the mission has been taken up by thousands of people around the world.

Martin is also the author of the bestselling series ‘The Camper Van Cookbook’, ‘The Camper Van Bible’ and ‘The Camper Van Coast’ and presented the BBC2 show called ‘One Man and his Campervan’.
