DESPITE torrential rain Bude Carnival went ahead and maintained its great reputation for colour, character and sheer charm.

A great deal of work and imagination went into the delightful tableaux and stunning walking entries — with the popular theme of 'Disney' giving everyone plenty of scope of which they took full advantage.

Thanks for keeping the splendid show on the road must go to everyone who turned out to watch and all those who helped in any way, including advertisers and sponsors.

Thanks for assistance applies especially to the fifty seven walkers and Bude Town Band who continued with the afternoon procession despite the horrendous weather.

The evening was slightly dryer and attracted entries from as far as Okehampton and Hatherleigh making up some of the 25 floats.and 20 plus walkers.

Retiring Carnival Queen, Assumpta Britten, had a parting message for all who had helped her enjoy the role so much over the past year.

She said:?"As the retiring Carnival Queen of 2009/10, I would like to thank the committee for all their hard work and giving me the opportunity to represent Bude — it was a great honour.

"I have really enjoyed my year and wish the Royalty of 2010/11 every success for the coming year."

She added: "I would encourage any girl and boy wishing to represent Bude as Royalty for next year to keep an eye out for the choosing in April 2011 — I am sure they will have as much fun and enjoyment as I have had. Thank you."
