On Friday, February 6, a total of 27 teams battled through the snow and ice to take part in the Bude Pilot Gig Club 'Wine and Wisdom' quiz night at the Bullers Arms in Marhamchurch with questions set by Anne Sillick. With an initial setback of the compere being snowed in on his farm in Langore, Adrian Furze stepped in to ask the questions. In a packed function room the brainiacs of Bude battled against each other for three hours before the score sheets revealed the 'Snow Joke' team winners with 110 points, 5 points clear of the second place team. All of the winning team come from Bude except for one, Celia Garrard, who said: "I'm glad that I had travelled from Yeovil yesterday to make sure that I didn't miss the event, it was great fun." The evening made over £500 towards the Bude Pilot Gig Club's much needed funds as they try to purchase a new Pilot Gig. The next Wine and Wisdom evening will be on April 3, ring 07792 791317 to book a place.
