A NEW Bude charity is launching its first major fundraising campaign.

Richard Perkins, a serving member of the military, established Veterans Coastal Retreats to provide much-needed support for military personnel, both actively serving and those retired.

The charity’s first stage of its vision is to create a coastal retreat in Cornwall, offering veterans and their families the opportunity to rest, recharge and make lasting memories together.

Now, it is hosting a charity golf day at Bude and North Cornwall Golf Club on September 26.

Military personnel often face unique challenges during and after their service, from physical injuries to mental health struggles and the difficult transition back to civilian life. Families play a vital role, often bearing the emotional and practical impact of their loved one’s service. The charity has a fundraising milestone of £2-million as it aims to give military personnel the chance to enjoy stress-free retreats in a supportive environment, and the organisation’s golf day is hoping to raise the funds to bring this vision to life.

Richard said: “Having seen first-hand the sacrifices veterans and their families make, I wanted to create something that gives back to them. Bude is my home, and it feels right to begin this journey here with the support of the local community. Every pound raised will go towards providing veterans and their families with time to heal, relax and reconnect. The charity is run solely by volunteers, so every donation goes back to the cause.

“Thank you to all the local businesses and everyone who has donated to the charity auction and raffle so far. We are incredibly grateful by the overwhelming generosity. Places for the golf day are limited and early booking is encouraged.
