OVER £1,400 was raised at ‘Bude’s Big Picnic’ on Sunday, June 12.

The event was held to not only celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday but to support four local families suffering from illness — including the families of Talan Penny, Corey Alway and Teej Mckinley.

People of all ages enjoyed the entertainment under the roof of the tennis dome at Budehaven on Sunday, as well as the football outside under the watch of two Bude football coaches.

There was low-impact Zumba, yoga with Rosie Lewis and children’s entertainment, including Penstowe Manor’s ‘Captain Crumble’ and ‘George the Dragon’.

There was a display from around 50 gymnasts of North Devon Gymnastics, described as ‘absolutely brilliant’

Pete ‘Vicko’ Vickery commentated throughout the day, and did ‘Vicko’s victory presentation’ to the winners of the rowing and cycling challenges, with awards courtesy of ‘Signs of the Times’ awarded.

Lisa Wood, who organised the event with Donna Wright, said: “It was just everyone pulling together to help the community — it was a lovely day.”

The organisers expressed thanks to all who helped make the event so successful, in particular Lansdown Dairy, Bude, which donating its takings from its stall on the day — £222.50.
