A CORNISH residents’ association has done its bit to help a vital community resource which provides support for families with children when a parent or caregiver is facing a terminal illness.
Woburn Residents’ Association committee and members decided that following their recent cream tea the proceeds of the event would be donated to Gunners Kids.
Gunners Kids CIC recently expanded its operation - which supports young people having to deal with the difficult circumstances of having a terminally ill parent - to Launceston, working out of the town’s Health Hub located on Exeter Street.
These new sessions aim to provide a safe space for families in need of support, as well as offer professionals the opportunity to learn more about the organisation's work. Gunners Kids CIC already runs a variety of services, including activity days and tailored workshops.
The charity hopes to enable families to create lasting memories with their loved ones by offering activities, workshops, information, and peer support in a safe, understanding, and welcoming environment.
The drop-in sessions are part of the organisation’s new outreach programme, offering families a chance to talk to trained volunteers in a supportive, confidential setting.
With the work the charity does being so important, Ken and Lorraine Beale from Woburn Residents’ Association recently visited the hub on Exeter Street to present Tamsin Chapman-Gunner with a cheque for £300.
The donation will go towards the operating expenses at Exeter Street for the next 12 months. Tamsin explained that volunteers give their time willingly and so all donations are used to fund the various activity days and tailored workshops which they run.
A spokesperson from Woburn Residents’ Association said: “We are very happy to have supported the work of Gunners Kids in their new venture which serves Launceston and its surrounding areas.”
