A LOCAL charity has received funding from the National Lottery Community Fund to help provide transport to people in rural areas.

Holsworthy Rural Community Transport has been awarded funding which will be given out over the course of a three-year period to support their project.

The grant, for the first of the three years, is comprised predominantly of a capital element to fund the purchase of a new minibus which has just arrived in the town.

A spokesperson from Holsworthy Rural Community Transport said: “Thanks go to players of the National Lottery for helping to achieve this.”

Holsworthy Rural Community Transport is a small charity dedicated to helping the people of Holsworthy and the surrounding rural area.

Their aim is to improve peoples’ quality of life, giving a lifeline to rurally isolated people in the community by providing community transport for those who may not otherwise be able to travel.

Their services provide people with independence which can improve mental wellbeing plus the opportunity to develop a social network, potentially combatting loneliness and depression.

The spokesperson added: “We provide subsidised minibus trips for essential shopping, social trips and places of interest, plus volunteer car journeys to take people to vital medical appointments.”
