A YOUNG surfer from Bude is taking to the waves every day for a year in an effort to raise money for Children in Need.

Since the start of the year, sixteen-year-old Isaac Friend has been braving the cold Cornish waters each day as he combines one of his passions with the raising money for an important cause by surfing 365 days of the year.

“I love surfing and in December 2025, I was stoked to be invited to compete at the world championships in Peru,” Isaac told us. “When I got back I wanted to combine my surfing with doing something for charity. Whatever I did had to be challenging so surfing every day in 2026, whatever the conditions, seemed a good idea. I also decided to do a daily video diary to prove I was doing what I set out to do.”

Living by the sea, Isaac’s father first pushed him into the waves when he was only five-years-old, and it’s safe to say he’s never looked back.

Thanks to his passion, Isaac has had some incredible experiences since starting the challenge. In January, he travelled to Morocco for a training camp and even represented England at the World Junior championship in September and the European junior games in October.

Despite juggling commitments, Isaac has been true to his word, surfing every day no matter the weather.

“Sometimes the surfing is hard because it’s stormy or flat or messy or freezing or hailing,” said Isaac. “I’ve had to surf at 5am because I was going on a school trip and another day at 10pm because I had been traveling all day, but mostly its epic!

“The very long flat spell was really hard. I just had to wait on my board until a ripple came through on some days.”

As the challenge continues, Isaac has bee. gaining more recognition which has even seen sponsors raise around £2,000 for the cause, purchasing sponsorship space on his Children in Need rash vest.

Only a few months away from completing his mission, Isaac is hopeful that he can finish with a bang, raising plenty of money for charity.

“Shorter days and damp wetsuits aren't great but I'm looking forward to the winter swells and surfing some great waves with my brother and friends, at the best spots in Bude,” he told us.

“With Children in Need day coming up there will be lots of projects, stories and challenges on the radio and TV and also fundraising in schools. I hope people might see the great projects Children in Need support and consider donating.”

Having already raised more than £5,200, Isaac is already looking ahead to 2027.

He said: “Next year I want to continue to raise money for charity and am thinking of doing one big challenge a month, instead of every day, for 12 different charities. So if there’s a charity out there, that wants to set me a challenge in 2027 please DM me via instagram.”
