A TEENAGER has shaved his head in solidarity with a loved-one who is undergoing chemotherapy.

When Ned Boundy heard that his beloved ‘Nona’, Maxine Towl, would be losing her hair again, the 13-year-old from St Giles didn’t hesitate to show his support for his relative.

As a byproduct of undergoing chemotherapy to treat her cancer, Maxine has lost much of her hair, however, thanks to her grandson, she isn’t alone. Following the news that Maxine would lose her hair again, Ned saw an opportunity to be by her side, all while raising money for a good cause.

Ned decided to use the shave as a chance to raise funds for The Mustard Tree. The organisation offers a warm, welcoming space for cancer patients and their loved ones, providing advice, comfort and a listening ear from Macmillan Cancer Support staff and trained volunteers.

It’s not the first time the family has rallied support. Last year, they raised £2,123 at a coffee morning and raffle held at St Giles Coronation Hall for the same charity, which has supported Maxine through multiple hospital visits to Derriford’s Same Day Emergency Care ward. The raffle prizes and cakes were kindly donated by local businesses, family and friends.

So with a good cause in his heart, on Saturday, November 15, Ned, alongside his Nona, took to the barber’s chair at Making Waves hairdressers in Launceston, where they both braved the shave surrounded by their family and friends.

Thanks to his efforts, Ned raised more than £2,000 for the charity, though he is hoping to raise even more.

Maxine’s family have expressed that they are endlessly grateful for the kindness and care they’ve received, and Ned’s big-hearted gesture is just one way they’re giving back to the charity that has helped them through so much.
