DEATH BY DANGEROUS DRIVING
CHRIS JOHNS, 48, of Coles Mill Close, Holsworthy has been sent to Truro Crown Court charged with, on 2 May 2024 on the A30 at Plusha, causing the death of Martin Snowden and serious injury to two other men and a woman by driving his Honda Civic dangerously and without due care while over the BZE and cocaine drug drive limit. His case was listed for 16 October.
SEX OFFENCES
ADAM DOWNIE, 47, of Gustory Road, Crantock pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to numerous charges against three women. They include two charges of rape; sexual assaults including one of penetrating a victim’s vagina with a glass bottle; strangling the women and engaging in coercive behaviour towards all three. He is alleged to have damaged property, isolated one woman from her family and got her addicted to class A drugs and is said to have coerced one victim into sexual acts in exchange for drugs and withheld food from the third victim who he is alleged to have suffocated. His trial was fixed for 26 July and he was released on conditional bail not to go to Edgecumbe Avenue or an address in Newquay or contact four women and a man.
PETER BENNETT, 39, of HMP Exeter has been sent to Truro Crown Court charged with raping a girl aged under 13 at St Dennis.
JAMIE TRUDGIAN, 33, of Bowling Green Cottages, Bowling Green was given a 27-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, at Truro Crown Court after pleading guilty to sex offences. Between 2018 and 2024 at Bugle he possessed 55 extreme pornographic images portraying, in an explicit way, a person performing oral sex with a dog which was grossly offensive; 2530 category A indecent images of a child, 1388 category B and 880 category C images; made 1960 of the most serious category A indecent images, 1057 category B images of a child and distributed 84 category A images, 37 category B and 17 category C images of a child. The court ordered him to take part in rehabilitation activities; he was made subject to a sexual harm prevention order restricting his use of the internet and he must register with the police for ten years and pay a £187 surcharge.
ANDREW WILKINSON, 39, of Grove Drive, Liskeard has been made subject to a five-year sexual risk order restricting his use of the internet.
HARVEY SOLLIS, 20, of Maiden Street, Bude has been made subject to a two-year sexual risk order restricting his use of the internet.
STALKING
JEREMY WILKINS, 42, of Heart Mead, Menheniot changed his plea to guilty on charges of stalking two women involving serious alarm/distress. Between 1 December and 28 January at Beacon Road, Bodmin he sent unwanted messages and contacted a woman which amounted to stalking which had a substantial adverse effect on her day-to-day activities and, between April and June 2025 in Menheniot, he contacted a woman threatening to attend her address and remove her children from school. He also admitted failing to surrender to Exeter Magistrates’ Court on 10 November. He was given a 40-week custodial sentence suspended for two years. Magistrates noted they were serious and sustained offences which had a serious impact on both victims and he has had poor compliance with court orders including non-molestation orders. He will have to do 100 hours unpaid work and was made subject to restraining orders not to contact two women until 17 September 2036.
JOSHUA ANDREWS, 34, of Nanturras Way, Goldsithney pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to stalking involving serious alarm and distress at Saltash between April and August this year. He is alleged to have hacked his victim’s accounts and emails, sent malicious emails, sent and uploaded nude photos of her, threatened to send people to her address and shared an intimate photograph of her. His trial was fixed for 15 February and he was remanded in custody.
COERCIVE BEHAVIOUR
DELL TAIT, 26, of Carnsmerry, Bugle changed his plea to guilty at Truro Crown Court on a charge of engaging in coercive behaviour at Nansledan in 2023. He had been abusive to his victim, controlled who she could see, threatened to shoot himself if she split up, assaulted her with a belt, tried to shame her and broke the door handle at her address. Charges of assaulting her occasioning actual bodily harm and damaging her front door were discharged. He was given a 16-month prison sentence suspended for two years, ordered to do 220 hours unpaid work and made subject to a restraining order not to contact his victim, attend any address where she is living, enter Nansledan or make any reference to her on social media until 18 September 2033. He has to pay her £130 compensation, £500 costs and a £187 surcharge.
JOSHUA CULLEN, 30, of Mount Pleasant Place, Lostwithiel pleaded guilty to engaging in coercive behaviour between 1 April 2025 and 3 February 2026 at Liskeard and driving on Pike Street, Liskeard on 3 February with 69 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath exceeding the limit of 35. Magistrates noted his behaviour had intended to maximise fear and distress and was persistent over a prolonged period with multiple methods of controlling or coercive behaviour which had a substantial effect on his victim causing psychological harm. He was given an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, must have six-months treatment for his alcohol use and was banned from driving for 18 months which will be reduced by 18 weeks if he attends a course, fined £440 and ordered to pay his victim £3000 compensation, a £187 surcharge and £85 costs. He was made subject to a restraining order not to contact his victim until 21 September 2031.
ASSAULT
TOMMY BOYLAN, 32, of Island Crescent, Newquay pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to assaulting a man occasioning him actual bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon, a wooden mallet, at Constantine Bay in July 2023. He was given a nine-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months. He must have treatment for his mental health for 12 months and pay a £187 surcharge.
BROOKLYN COBBLE, 22, of Harvenna Heights, Fraddon pleaded not guilty to assaulting a woman at Fraddon on 15 June. A trial was fixed for 18 March and the defendant was released on conditional bail not to go to Tesco in Garras Wharf or Boscawen Street, Truro or contact the alleged victim and he has to live and sleep at Harvenna Heights, Fraddon.
JAMIE HARRIS, 34, of Rosevear Terrace, Roche has been sent to Truro Crown Court charged with assaulting a man occasioning him actual bodily harm, assaulting a woman, threatening violence towards others and damaging a bedroom door, wall and garage door causing £1993 worth of damage at Rock View Parc, Roche on 10 May. His case was listed for 16 October and he was released on conditional bail not to enter Rock View Parc or contact a man and a woman.
STUART RESCORLA, 36, of Gwindra Road, St Stephen was found guilty of assaulting a man and damaging his pedal assist bike worth £629 at St Stephen on 10 January. He had denied the offences. He will be sentenced on 14 October.
JODIE DREW, 40, of Lostwithiel Road, St Austell pleaded guilty to assaulting a man at Bodmin Retail Park and damaging a glass door belonging to Snap Fitness on 1 July. She was given a conditional discharge for three years and made subject to a restraining order not to contact or approach four people until 21 September 2031. She has to pay £108 compensation, £85 costs and a £26 surcharge.
MARK BARROW, 36, of Battalion Close, Bodmin, who pleaded guilty to assaulting a man at Priory Road, Bodmin, has been made subject to a hospital order following his conviction at Truro Crown Court.
KYLE CARR, 34, of Swallows End, Plymstock pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to inflicting grievous bodily harm on a woman and assaulting her on numerous occasions at St Mabyn and engaging in controlling/coercive behaviour. He is alleged to have monitored the complainant’s whereabouts, been verbally aggressive and physically abusive towards her when she did not abide by his rules and gaslit her into thinking it was mental health related. He was remanded in custody and his trial was fixed for 15 January.
PHILLIP JONES, 25, of St Cleer pleaded not guilty at Truro Crown Court to assaulting and strangling a woman at Dobwalls on 20 August. He pleaded guilty to a charge of harassment by breaching a restraining order when he contacted the woman at Dobwalls the same day. He was remanded in custody and his trial fixed for 1 February.
ANDREW DICKERSON, 39, of The Old Rectory, Gulworthy changed his plea to guilty at Truro Crown Court on a charge of assaulting a woman occasioning her actual bodily harm at Liskeard on 26 March. He was given a 16-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, ordered to do 100 hours unpaid work, to pay his victim £200 compensation and have treatment for his drug use and his mental health. He was made subject to a restraining order not to contact his victim, attend any address she is residing at as well as an address in Lanchard Lane, Liskeard until 23 September 2028.
SAM HALLIDAY, 31, of Great Longlands Drive, Carkeel was sentenced to 90 hours unpaid work at Truro Crown Court after being convicted of assaulting a woman at Wilcove in July 2025. He has to pay £200 costs and a £114 surcharge.
ALEXANDER STEWART, 39, of Prince Philip Road, St Stephens, pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to assaulting a woman by beating at Launceston on 16 April and changed his plea to guilty on a charge of possessing an offensive weapon, namely a Stanley knife, at Newport Industrial Estate, Launceston on 16 April. He had already changed his plea to guilty on a charge of assaulting a man occasioning him actual bodily harm at Prince Philip Road the same day and assaulting a man occasioning him actual bodily harm at Newport Industrial Estate on 15 April. He continues to plead not guilty to strangling a man at St Stephens on 16 April.
JASON STEWART, 39, of St Marys Road, Lanstephan has been sent to Truro Crown Court charged with assaulting a woman at Bude occasioning her actual bodily harm on 12 December and threatening to kill her on 20 December. His case was listed for 16 October and he was released on conditional bail not to go to Woodfield Road, Bude or contact his alleged victim.
INTIMIDATED WITNESS
RICKY SUTTON, 36, of Lockington House, Baytree Hill, Liskeard has been sent to Truro Crown Court charged with, at The King Doniert in Liskeard on 20 September, doing an act which was intended to intimidate a victim/witness assisting in the investigation of an offence intending the course of justice to be obstructed. He was remanded in custody and his case listed for 27 October.
MENACING MESSAGE
CHRISTOPHER CLARKE, 45, of Bridge Street, St Blazey pleaded guilty to sending an offensive/indecent/obscene/menacing message at Bugle on 5 March. He will be sentenced on 28 October and was released on conditional bail not to go to Fore Street, Bugle or contact his victim.
HARASSMENT
STEVEN WAY, 42, of Creakavose Park, St Stephen pleaded not guilty to harassing a woman at Probus between 25 September and 15 February by sending her unwanted messages and texts. He will stand trial on 11 March.
SIMON ROBINSON, 39, of Alexandra Road, Ford was sent to prison for nine months when he was sentenced at Truro Crown Court for breaching a restraining order. Between November and April at Bodmin he attended the home of a woman he was prohibited from contacting.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
CHRISTOPHER HALEY, 41, of NFA, admitted breaching a domestic violence protection order. On 22 September, at The Square, Fore Street, Bugle he was located with his victim and attended her address on the same day. He was fined £100.
LEONARD DINU, 27, of Bartles Row, Tuckingmill was made subject to a 28-day domestic violence protection order on 23 September not to threaten or contact a woman or go to an address in Camborne.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
KAREN TREZISE, 52, of Chenhale Farm, Carharrack, Redruth was found guilty at Truro Magistrates’ Court of causing £1500 worth of criminal damage at Hayle on 27 December 2024. She had denied damaging CCTV cameras and fascias to the property. She was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £57 compensation, a £26 surcharge and £650 costs.
CLOSURE ORDER
4 SANTOS TERRACE, Tywardreath Highway was made subject to a three-month closure order on 20 September under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act.
ORDER TO DESTROY DOG
FRANKIE SECKER, 19, of North Lodges, Polapit Tamar, Werrington has been warned by Bodmin magistrates that unless he gets an exemption for his XL Bully-type dog called Tye in the next two months an order will be made to have Tye destroyed in accordance with the Dangerous Dogs Act.
THEFT
PATRICK HENESEY, 37, of Mount Wise, Newquay pleaded guilty to stealing from Sainsbury’s in Bodmin up to 14 packs of razor blades on 23 January, five bottles of Jura Whiskey on 29 January and bottles of spirits from the same store on 4 February and, from Sainsbury’s in Newquay, four bottles of Jack Daniels and their security boxes worth £174 on 7 July, four bottles of Jack Daniels together with bottle locks, safer keys and a scan-to-go bag worth £216.50 on 18 July and two bottles of Jack Daniels with the bottle locks and safer cases and a bath sheet worth £120.99 on 21 July. He was given an eight-week prison sentence suspended for two years. Magistrates gave a custodial sentence because of the number of offences committed, some whilst on licence, and his history of offending. He has to have treatment for his drug use and pay £1312.49 compensation.
DRUNK
PHILLIP STRUDWICK, 46, of Atlantic Road, Newquay pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly on Atlantic Road on 2 August. He was fined £100.
DROVE WITHOUT CARE
STANLEY SYMONS, 65, of Dabryn Way, St Stephen will stand trial for driving without due care and attention on 21 December. He is alleged to, on 11 July last year on the A391 at Coldvreath, overtaken two vehicles into the path of an oncoming heavy vehicle. He has denied the offence.
DRINK/DRUG DRIVE
GAURAV RAI, 50, of Clifden Close, Newquay pleaded not guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis when being investigated for a traffic offence on 31 August. His trial was fixed for 25 March.
ROBERT ROWE, 40, of Lesnewth, Par pleaded guilty to driving at Hayle on 24 August with 128 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath exceeding the limit of 35. He was given an interim driving ban and will be sentenced on 28 October.
AARON STOCK, 34, of Chapel Street, Holsworthy changed his plea to guilty on a charge of failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis when being investigated for a traffic offence at Newquay on 20 June. He was banned from driving for 17 months which will be reduced by 17 weeks if he completes a course, fined £1332 and ordered to pay a £533 surcharge and £130 costs.
FAIL TO STOP
DANIEL SCAMMELL, 22, of Connoc Close, Liskeard pleaded guilty to failing to stop his car after an accident on Barras Place, Liskeard and driving without a licence on 14 February. Ten points were put on his licence and he was ordered to do 100 hours unpaid work and pay £85 costs.
ENVIRONMENTAL CRIME
TANUJA WIGNESWARN, 53, of Tanyas Café, Fourwinds, Bodmin has pleaded not guilty to five offences of breaching the Environmental Protection Act. They are depositing controlled waste on Launceston Road Retail Park in Bodmin on 27 and 29 June; 2, 7 and 9 July. Her case was adjourned to 6 April for a trial at Bodmin Magistrates’ Court.
