600 Lambs, 243 Draft Ewes and Rams

Larger entry with the good meat Lambs selling to a premium.

Top per kilo being 326ppk for a pen of Texel x 46kgs £150 from JW Shepherd & Sons of Trefrida, Jacobstow. Rod Wood of Forda, Thornbury realised 323ppk for his 2 pens of 44.6kgs £144, 3 vendors realised 321ppk.

There were a lot of leaner Lambs on offer that were harder to place, top per head was £159 from Graham Hookway of Huish, Torrington.

Draft Ewes

Much larger entry and a very fast trade, overall average of £105.90 with a larger prepomtion on offer being grazing ewes.

The few fat ewes sold to a top of £181 for a pen of Polled Dorsets from Cambusmore Estates, Manor farm of Meeth, Suffolk x to £169 from Mr R Shadrick of Marhamchurch and Texel x to £168 from JW Shepherd & Sons of Trefrida, Jacobstow. Mules to £151 and several grazing ewes at £110 to £125.

223 Store Lambs

Good entry and a strong trade, top being £120 from the Ford family of Parsonage, Newton Tracey who realised £118 for their second pen. Kev Heard of Bradworthy saw his Charollais x Lambs achieve £118 also.

458 Calves and Weaned Calves

A decent show of quality calves forward today and a strong trade to match the quality seen with plenty of Blue bulls over £500 and heifers over £400.

Weaned Calves

Good numbers of weaned calves around which sold to £840 for a smart Blue steer (8m) in from RAS Johns and Partners, Shebbear followed by a pair for cracking Simmental steers to £815 in from GG Smale and Son, Launceston who sold Simmental heifers to £650 for a sweet pair.

Milk Calves

Good numbers in the milk section with best Blue bulls attaining a strong £780 for a super sort in from FK M & SK Kendall, Bodmin who sold other good examples to £710 x2 and £620 x2, further Blue bulls to £675 for ST Beer, Monkleigh and £660, £610 and £600 for AJ & RG Barber LTD who had an exceptional run of 70 calves down from Shepton Mallet.

A superb Charolais bull made £610 for the Wearing family, Tavistock other younger sorts to £508 for LJ Goaman, Hartland and £418 (12 days) for RM CE & IR Harris, Winkleigh. Sweet, well put together Limousin bulls topped at £540 for AJ & PE Nancekivell, Kilkampton others to £500 for MJC Hambly, Liskeard.

Angus bulls a very fast trade and were commanded by AJ & RG Barber who sold best Angus bulls very well at £510 x3, £475 x2 and £440 x2, a credit to them. Further strong Angus bulls to £440 for TJ & BE Cowley & Son, Ashwater. Hereford bulls at £445 for WJ & CC Bond who sold others well at £440 and £428 for a pair in from GP & JA Kirk, Ashwater.

Heifers topped at £618 for a very shapely Blue heifer in from AJ & RG Barber LTD who sold others well to £502 x2, £500, £480 and £475 more top end Blue heifers to £545 x2 and £540 for FK M & SK Kendall again. Charolias heifers to £535 for a cracker in from the Wearing family, Limousin heifers to £490 for AJ & PE Nancekivell.

Native heifers being big or small sold well and reached £400 for a trio of smart Angus from AJ & RG Barber LTD, others to £380 for AJ & PE Nancekivell. Hereford heifers in good demand and reached £350 for WJ & CC Bond, Buckland Brewer others to £335 for MJC Hambly.

Dairy Sired Bulls

A fantastic Friesians bull trade with 35 head averaging well at £193! To a top of £510 for AJ & RG Barber, others £315 for FK M & SK Kendall and £310 x3 for JR & A Down, Whiddon Down.

361 Store Cattle

An excellent entry predominately young cattle which saw a good trade from start to finish.

Few forward cattle this week especially sought after and more required. Top call being £2200 for 2 single suckled South Devon steers 17mths old from Mr P Marjason of Torrington who sold other wintering South Devons to £1930.

Messrs G Daniel & Son of North Tamerton saw their 2 strong feeding Limousins to £2030 other well presented 20mth Limousins from Mr J Banbury of Lifton to £1940 who also topped the British blues this week at £2030. The stronger natives topped to £1940 for 4 at 22mths from Mr P Dack of Sandwich Park, Hereford steers to £1920 from Mr AS May of Week St Mary others from Mr WT Robinson of Ashwater at £1880.

A strong heifer trade topped at £2040 for a 25mth Hereford from Mr WT Robinson of Ashwater other natives from Mr RJ Prouse of Torrington to £1940 who sold British blues to £1920. Other wintering British blues from M Lucas & Partners of Bridgerule to £1800 & £1800 for a British blue from Mr AS May of Week St Mary.

Charolais heifers to £1880 for an 18mth heifer from Mr J Banbury and Limousins to £1800 for 2 from Mr AS May and Messrs G Daniel & Son saw £1790 for 3 feeding 24mth Limousins.

Organic Cattle

A nice run of 20mth old British blue & Aberdeen angus from MR JT Bond of Thornbury who saw a strong trade at £1870 for Aberdeen angus steers and British blue steers to £1650.

278 Younger Stores

As always younger stores in demand. A superb run of 11 and 12mth single suckled Limousins from Messrs CN & WT Lingham of Barnstaple who topped the steers at an impressive £1870 other steers at £1770 & £1750 and heifers to £1600.

Several young Charolais sold well this week, a run from Mr JW Prideaux of Bude saw steers to £1580 others to £1440 & heifers from the same farm to £1400. Younger 10mth Charolais from Messrs SFB Agricutural Services of Bideford to £1190(5) & 10mth heifers to £1050.

Several good consignments of young Dairy x British blues saw strong bidding, a nice run from Messrs J&J Phillpotts of Halwill topped at £1310 others at 11mth to £1270. Young 7-8mth well fed British blues from Messrs JA Mills of Peters Marland saw steers to £820 &£780 and heifers to £740.

OTM Weighing Cows

258ppk was the top for a 752kilo South Devon cow from Mr P Marjason of Torrington at £1864.
