AN IT technician at Launceston Primary School, part of Athena Learning Trust, has been sharing his inspiring personal challenge with pupils this term — completing 100 push-ups every day throughout June to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Mr Dean, the school’s tech guru, was touched by the school community’s response, which was not only to cheer him on, but to join him.

What followed was an assembly filled with laughter, encouragement, and some serious upper-body strength. Pupils from across the year groups stepped up. Ada (Year 3) and Emilia (Year 2) showed fantastic form and added 10 push-ups each to the count. Theo (Year 2) and Riley (Explorers) led the way with sibling strength, clocking in 28 push-ups together.

Then the staff took on the challenge and the crowd went wild. Mr Bishop, Mr Marshall, and Mr Rosevear cranked out 10 push-ups each. Headteacher, Mrs Eyre, with some enthusiastic encouragement from pupils and staff alike, completed her 10 too.

In total, the school racked up 88 push-ups during the assembly. True to his word, Mr Dean matched every single one and even threw in a few extras to complete his 100 for the day.

Mr Dean is taking on the challenge in support of Cancer Research UK and has already inspired many to follow in his footsteps. His fundraising page is still open for donations.

Mrs Eyre, principal at Launceston Primary School said: “What a brilliant, feel-good afternoon, it was more than just a fitness challenge. It was about togetherness, resilience, and doing something meaningful for others. We’re so proud of Mr Dean and the children for throwing themselves into this with such enthusiasm.”
