SOME of Launceston’s young musical talents are preparing to put on a show for the town’s audiences.

The Launceston Town Band’s Junior Band are set to take to the stage for a Disney extravaganza, presenting some much-loved Disney tunes at Lifton Community Centre.

The junior band is made up of enthusiastic young learners aged between eight and 16, supported by adult learners and experienced helpers. The group has been rehearsing incredibly hard to present a fun programme of well known Disney favourites for the local community.

One of the band’s own young musicians, 15-year-old lead euphonium player Zachary Parrin, will also be conducting one of the pieces. He recently stepped in to lead a rehearsal whilst musical director Ann Brown was on holiday, doing an excellent job keeping the band in time, offering helpful feedback, and keeping the session on track.

Audience members can expect to hear popular tunes from classic films including The Jungle Book, The Lion King and Pixar favourite Toy Story plus many more, making it an enjoyable afternoon for Disney fans of all ages.

Entry to the event is free, with the band inviting families and supporters to come along and enjoy the music.

Alongside the concert there will be a raffle featuring several generous prizes, including a prestigious Steiff Mickey Mouse teddy kindly donated by Steiff in support of the event, as well as prizes donated by local businesses. Visitors will also have the chance to take part in a “guess the name of the unicorn” competition to win a giant stuffed unicorn.

Homemade cakes, treats, and teas and coffees will also be available for a donation, helping to raise funds to support the band and its young musicians.

The event is planned for Sunday, April 26, from 3pm to 5pm.
