“WOULD you like an adventure now, or shall we have tea first?” — The answer was both, as Holsworthy’s Deer Park Nursing Home sat down for its first big party since reopening its doors eight months ago.

Residents and family members were praised for how they embraced the ever-popular Mad Hatter theme — enjoying tea, cakes and some silly fun.

Activities co-ordinator, Alyce Barber, said: “This was our first big event, so we wanted it to be fun and make everyone feel like they are part of the Deer Park family.

“A Mad Hatter’s Tea Party was an obvious choice – everyone is familiar with it.

“Of course it was essential to make sure the familiar characters were all invited, so the Mad Hatter came – aka team leader Anne Finch; as well as the White Rabbit – healthcare assistant Adam Stratton; the Queen of Hearts – deputy manager Amanda Williams; and Alice – me.”

A warm welcome back was offered to Emma Richardson who delighted residents with a great selection of party songs – which prompted lots of dancing and singing along.

There was also Mad Hatter bingo, a lucky teapot scratchcard, musical entertainment and a little bit of seated exercise

Alyce continued: “Ahead of the day our ladies and gents were keen to help with party prep, so were supported to make themed decorations for the lounges and some lovely flower arrangements.

“Deer Park’s wonderful chef and kitchen team did a terrific job with bottles of ‘Drink me’ ginger ale and elderflower spritz, an amazing Cheshire Cat ‘grin’ of cheese and pineapple, checkerboard sandwiches, white rabbit carrot cake and scones and cream.”

The team was also pleased to be able to welcome several colleagues’ families, members of the community and guests whose loved ones had passed away, who are still considered very much part of the Deer Park family.
