THE mother of a Holsworthy man who died after a road traffic collision on the A3072 two years ago has said that more needs to be done to address ‘long standing issues’ relating to the safety of the road.

Mrs Bowyer contacted The Post after reading about the recent incidents on the A3072 near Holsworthy and said that in her view, things hadn’t improved since a single vehicle collision involving her son Graham saw him pass away from his injuries aged 61 in June 2024.

She called on Devon County Council to do more to understand and address the concerns relating to the safety of the road in light of a spate of collisions on the road.

Mrs Bowyer said that the coroner’s report after her son passed away had been inconclusive on the reasons as to the cause of the incident that cost him his life but said that in her view, the road had other issues than just potholes and called on Devon County Council to undertake a comprehensive review of the road’s safety to minimise the risk of further incidents.

In response to Mrs Bowyer’s concerns, Devon County Council said it would provide any information to the police as part of investigations into the incidents that have recently taken place.

A spokesperson for Devon County Council said: “Devon County Council is aware of the two serious collisions on the A3072 near Anvil Corner, Holsworthy, and our thoughts are with those involved, along with their families and friends.

“At present, Devon County Council is not aware of any issues raised by the police regarding the condition of the road or any road-related factors that may have contributed to these incidents. As the police investigations are still at an early stage, Devon County Council will provide any information relating to the A3072 as required.”
