DRIVERS travelling through Launceston are set for two weeks of disruption as roadworks will wind through three of the town’s major streets.

Cornwall Council has announced that Exeter Street, Southgate Street and Madford Lane are all set for maintenance work from Friday, September 25.

In order to facilitate the carriageway surface repairs, road closures will be implemented between 7pm and 4am on weeknights for up to two weeks.

The council has expressed that during working hours, a Clearway Parking Zone will be in force along the full extent of the site, meaning that any vehicles parked in the signed areas during this time will be towed, with charges applied.

Access for residents and businesses will be maintained through gateways managed by traffic marshals, but the council has expressed that ‘there will be significant delays’, as residents will be required to stop at the gateways and staff will help drivers get into, or out of the roadworks site safely using the right route.

A spokesperson from Cornwall Council added: “We know that noise associated with night-time working can cause disruption to residents and we understand this can be frustrating. Please be assured we aim to complete the noisiest operations as early as possible and will try to minimise any impact should the works overrun due to unforeseen circumstances.

“We will have marshals on site to support residents and businesses needing local access. All through traffic will need to follow the diversions in place.”

It has also been confirmed that despite closures, emergency access will be maintained at all times.

The spokesperson concluded: “Please be supportive by respecting and responding to any speed restrictions and the safety instructions given by staff.”
