The MP for North Cornwall, has called for urgent government action to crack down on organised crime linked to industrial-scale fly-tipping.

Cornwall Council reported a total of 3,101 fly-tipping incidents in 2023/24, an increase of over 10 per cent from the previous year, and Ben Maguire MP said he has dealt with a "flood" of fly-tipping cases on behalf of his North Cornwall constituents in recent months.

Commenting, the MP said: "What we’re seeing in North Cornwall is sadly part of a national scandal, with criminal gangs using our precious environment as their personal landfill. Local communities here are left dealing with disgusting pollution, fires, and the associated health risks.

"Residents are rightly furious that this dumping can continue for months or even years with little action.”
