IS there anything more Cornish than pirates?
Cornwall’s beaches, views, and landscape are also in close contention for some of the things most synonymous with the Duchy - of course other than the iconic pasty. Thankfully, one event seeks to combine all of these with buzz of a good run!
Each year, the region’s runners make a pilgrimage to the North Cornwall coast to tie up their running shoes and take on Bude’s Pirate Run.
Bude Pirate Run, hosted by Bude RATs, is around eight miles of outstanding trails and coastal scenery and lots of hills. Starting and finishing on Maer Down, Crooklets.
The event is a Cornwall Multi Terrain Series race - the second in the series, however one of the most exiting aspects is all about the costumes. As part of the event, runners are encouraged to don their best pirate costumes.
Eye patches, parrots and pirate hats are all likely to make an appearance.
This year’s event will welcome runners to the town on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
However, despite all the pirate fun, the event has a good cause at its heart.
Alongside the competition, the occasion also seeks to raise funds for Bude Surf Lifesaving Club - a vital local service.
The club, which has more than 250 members, seeks to provide water safety education. On top of this, the club also provides surfboard lifesaving training for its members and assist local Lifeguards on the beaches throughout the summer months.
As such, a substantial proportion of money raised from the Bude Pirate Run is given as a donation to the club.
Entrants can adjust and swap their entry up to the closing date for entry on September 14. After the closing date for entries no alterations are allowed and no swaps or entries on the day are permitted.
Runners must be over the age of 17.
