THE planning application that seeks to kick start the development of what it is anticipated will become the multi-million pound Holsworthy Agri-Business Centre has been put before planners at Torridge District Council.

If approved, it will grant full planning permission for the access, highways infrastructure and related groundworks and landscaping for the development plots in addition to granting an outline planning approval for the agricultural business centre buildings.

At present, only the works to enable the infrastructure is in place with this being the reason that part of the application is a full application, with Torridge District Council seeking to use the granting of the outline permission to promote third-party investment to turn the area into the much-mooted agri-business centre.

The plans could see seven industrial buildings of varying sizes built on the land near to Holsworthy Market.

AHR, the architects for the scheme who have worked with Torridge District Council stated in the planning application: “The Holsworthy Agricultural Business Centre is to deliver much needed and flexible Industrial Space. The design has been progressed for the eastern part of the site including the ‘May Land’.

“The hybrid approach ensures that the strategic infrastructure necessary to support the development is delivered at the outset, providing certainty regarding access, drainage, landscaping and environmental mitigation measures.

“At the same time, the outline element establishes a robust framework for future employment development whilst allowing flexibility in the detailed design, layout and occupation of individual plots.”

Of the outline planning aspect of the application, it was stated: “The outline planning application has been developed to provide certainty over the overall scale, form and character of the development whilst allowing flexibility in the detailed design of individual buildings.”
