AN exhibition has showcased the creative talents of some of the region’s future artists.

Children from Marhamchurch C of E Academy have turned their school into a gallery this month, putting on an exciting exhibition for the entire school community.

Each term, Marhamchurch pupils are set an open ended project designed to encourage curiosity, independence and imaginative thinking.

Over the last few months they have experimented with photography inspired by the work of Mika Ninagawa, a Japanese photographer and director, known for her brightly coloured photographs of flowers, goldfish, and landscapes. Pupils have also created expressive charcoal drawings in the style of artist Valerie Davide.

However, it isn’t just artists who have been in the spotlight, budding scientists and architects at the school have also been building detailed models of the solar system as well as producing impressive models of famous structures.

To celebrate the children’s creations, parents were invited into school to view the projects as part of a special gallery-style showcase. Classrooms were transformed into exhibition spaces where families could admire the work on display and speak to pupils about their design choices and creative processes.

Deirdre Petersen, headteacher at Marhamchurch C of E Academy, said: “Seeing our school transformed into a gallery filled with such imaginative and thoughtful work has been a real joy. Our pupils have shown incredible creativity and independence, and we are so proud of the way they have embraced each project.”

Tracey Cleverly, CEO of Learning Academy Partnership, added that the occasion reflected ‘the strength of the school community’.

She said: “These projects are a wonderful example of what happens when children are encouraged to explore ideas and take pride in their achievements. The enthusiasm shown by pupils, staff and families at Marhamchurch reflects the strength of the school community and our shared ambition to give every child the opportunity to thrive.”
