IT was a new venue and new weather for Poundstock Revel over the bank holiday.

The new site, by kind permission of Jen and Chris Spettigue and Pamela Idelson-Smith, was just right, with access from the A39 and magnificent views down the valley to the sea.

The sun shone, the rain stayed away and a great afternoon was had by all, both locals and visitors.

As well as the traditional stalls, sideshows, pony rides and refreshments, there were new games, one featuring a set of full-size replica owls with swivel heads — many thanks to the Knight family — and others featuring real-life birds and beasts.

Barbara Parsan’s chickens dutifully provided eggs for the Egg Timing competition, and the Nicklin family brought two lambs of nearly the same weight — but what was the difference?

The new sloping site for the Clarke-Feltham family’s skittle alley made some demands on those vying for the bottle of whisky, and it took a visiting lady to show everyone how to do it.

The organisers expressed their gratitude to all those who donated, helped and came along, and are delighted to report that the event made more than £1,200 for St Winwaloe’s church and Bangors Chapel.

The following day the weather was not so kind as about 25 people walked in the drizzle to St Neot’s Well.

At the ancient well there was a very short informal Celtic service of blessing and people laid posies of wild flowers around the well.

As tradition demands, everyone went back to the Gildhouse afterwards for a slap-up tea to round off a great community weekend.
