EACH year, people make the pilgrimage to enjoy a day in the sun on the North Cornwall coast, all while raising money for a good cause.
Bude’s annual Lifeboat Day brings the community together to raise funds for one of the town’s vital resources, and this year looks to be no different, with the town set to put the fun in fundraising at the end of August.
On Monday, August 25 - the bank holiday - residents are set for a day of fun and games, featuring a variety of events to get involved with.
The highlight for many is the annual duck race, hosted by the town’s Rotary Club, which is set to return again for 2025.
A spokesperson for the club said: “Thousands of ducks are now in training ready for the annual duck race to be held on Bude Canal on Bude Lifeboat Day 2025. Tickets will be on sale soon - follow this page for more details of times/venues for ticket sales. As ever they will be available to purchase on Lifeboat Day itself but don't leave it too late - we have sold out by mid-afternoon for the past few years! Net proceeds are shared between Rotary Club of Bude and RNLI.”
As well as this, the famous lifeboat quiz will once again be held at the Falcon Head Hotel, where residents will be channelling their inner mastermind in the hope of scooping first place.
Of course, the event wouldn’t be complete without some live music - this year hosted by a variety of groups including Celtic folk punk group Black Friday - and the ever-popular fireworks.
Organisers are hoping that this year’s event can mimic the success of 2024 - which coincided with the RNLI’s 200th anniversary - where residents raised a huge sum in excess of £42,000.
