INSPIRED by their father’s 20 years’ service on the Bude Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) Lifeboat, two siblings are tackling the charity’s latest challenge.

Isla, aged 10, and Sennen, aged 7, are taking part in the Cornwall RNLI Virtual Challenge 2021 to help support the RNLI’s volunteer crews in saving lives around the coast. They began on February 1 and have until March 31 to ‘reach’ their destination.

Between them they need to run, walk or cycle the distance between all the Cornish Lifeboat Stations.

There are a total of 13 RNLI lifeboat stations around the coast of Cornwall, from Bude to Looe the total distance is 228 miles, so at least 114 miles each. On their JustGiving Page Isla and Sennen said: “We are raising money for RNLI — Royal National Lifeboat Institution because Mike (Daddy) has been on the Bude crew since 2000.”

Their mother, Lisa Tame, has accompanied them on their journey but originally suggested they only take on the Bude to Sennen distance — but Isla and Sennen had other ideas. They have now completed most of the trek with just under 38 miles each left to go before they reach the equivalent distance between Bude and Looe stations.

Speaking of Isla and Sennen’s progress so far, Lisa told the Post: “We are really proud of Isla and Sennen’s determination to complete their challenge. They only have 38 miles left to do each, and about three weeks left, which in itself is an amazing achievement, let alone the amount they have raised so far.”

Lisa added: “The RNLI has been a huge part of our lives for over 20 years, with Mike (Dad) celebrating 20 years of service on the Bude Lifeboat last year.

“Please support the children in their epic challenge — they weren’t satisfied by only doing the Bude to Sennen distance as I first suggested!”

The siblings have smashed their original £300 target and are now aiming for £1,000.

With just a few weeks to go, Isla and Sennen have raised an incredible £830. To donate and help them reached their new target visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/isla-sennen-lisa
