THE Sound Waves South West Perryman/Bolitho Award prize of £100 was presented to the 2016 winner, singer Elizabeth Coleman, a Budehaven student.
The SWSW charity, based in Bude, promotes the importance of and provides music therapy, as well as running music workshops at schools and organisations.
The Perryman/Bolitho Awards were created in memory of the former trustees of the charity, Maggie Perryman and John Bolitho, and are presented annually to a young person who has provided evidence of musical achievement.
On July 16, Elizabeth Coleman from Budehaven School was announced as the winner by Rachel Ducker, niece of the late Maggie Perryman, and each nominee received a £15 book token. A ceremony then took place in Bude in their honour, with instrument teachers, family and friends attending. This was followed by a cream tea at Bramcote, the headquarters of the charity Sound Waves South West Music & Music Therapy Trust, which is now newly registered as an incorporated charity.
