SILENCE fell across the Post area on Wednesday last week as those who lost their lives in the two world wars and other conflicts were remembered.
The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month
Launceston Royal British Legion members observed a two-minute silence at 11am in the town square on Armistice Day, November 11. Town crier Rob Tremain led the short service with Ann Brown from Launceston Town Band sounding the Last Post. The Legion Exhortation was spoken by Peter Rowe, and the Kohima Epitaph by Terry Sully. There was a good attendance by townspeople.
Armistice Day was observed in Tintagel at the Roundabout on Wednesday, November 11. Trees were planted by pupils at Otterham Primary School to mark Armistice Day. A certificate was awarded to those involved in the Woodland Trust’s trees donation as part of their centenary woodland project. The event was organised by the boys who are participating in the John Muir Award, which promotes conservation of the environment for the future enjoyment of the community. Armistice Day was marked at Sir James Smith’s Community School, on Wednesday, November 11 by a traditional rendition of the ‘Last Post’ by Year 11 student, Emma Davey. She is pictured with fellow Year 11 pupil, Holly Kalicki, who assisted Emma, a member of Camelford Town Band. The school fell silent for two minutes after Emma played ‘The Last Post’ in the School Hall. In the run-up to November 11 members of Sir Jim’s Senior Prefect team went around the school during registration periods, selling poppies and other Remembrance Day items, in aid of the annual Royal British Legion appeal.

The Rev Canon Sherry Bryan conducted the service at St Breward’s war memorial on Mine Hill, and local resident Viv Crowle (pictured), a former Royal Engineer, was among those laying a wreath presented by the village at St Breward.
