A heartfelt plea from Torridge District Council to re-home a dog was hailed as a success as Toby found a new home.

In May, Torridge District Council issued a plea on social media for anyone who was able to re-home a dog to come forward, sharing the story of six-year-old collie Toby.

At the time of being put up for rescue, Torridge District Council told its residents: “Toby is a beautiful six-year-old Collie who deserves his forever home. He was previously owned by an elderly couple, but sadly, one of them passed away. Afterwards, Toby found himself in a new home in Torridge.

“Unfortunately, he escaped and was on the run for five weeks before being rescued. Despite his ordeal, Toby was very affectionate and sweet when he was caught and taken to the kennels. Toby loves being outdoors and enjoys spending time sleeping on a duvet in the shade. He adores his walks and running but is equally happy to relax afterward. Toby will scrape on the door to let you know when he wants to go outside.”

Among the requirements were a home in the Torridge area with experienced owners as well as having no cats and access to a secure garden.

The appeal was widely shared on social media and it was announced a month later that Toby had found the perfect home to attend to his needs.

Announcing the news, a spokesperson for Torridge District Council said: “We've got some amazing news to share with you! Toby has a new home and is very, very happy, and so are we! Toby is doing exceptionally well.

“He’s been enjoying plenty of long walks and has had some peaceful downtime. Thank you to everyone who shared his story and helped him find a safe and loving home. Your kindness has truly made a difference - thank you so much.”
