JACKIE Hannaford of Kilkhampton will next month be collecting 'Treats for Troops' at supermarkets in Bude and Holsworthy.
Jackie and her loyal helpers will be at the Co-op in Bude from Monday, November 3 until Friday, November 7. They will then be at Somerfield in Holsworthy on Monday, November 10 and Thursday, November 13, and at Morrisons in Bude on Wednesday and Friday, November 12 and 14.
Jackie said: "Hopefully people will come along and support me as usual."
Jackie has already received around 70 knitted hats of different colours to be sent out with the supplies to soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Earlier this month, military leaders asked the public not to send out Christmas parcels to unnamed troops. The Ministry of Defence said that the thousands of parcels sent to service personnel in combat zones last Christmas had stopped personal letters and gifts from friends and family arriving in time.
This Christmas, the British Forces Post Office will limit its free postal service to friends and family, only accepting mail addressed to a named serviceman or woman, to ensure their cards and gifts get through on time.
Even though Jackie always puts names of servicemen and women on the parcels, she will be sending the boxes out later than planned. The soldiers will therefore receive their supplies just after Christmas.
She said: "It should boost their moral after Christmas and should cut down the volume of stuff going out on Christmas."
To boost Jackie's campaign this year, Launceston WI are going to be holding a collection, as well as a lady in Wadebridge.
Jackie also wished to thank the shops in Bude which very kindly donated flip flops earlier in the year to be sent out to the troops.
