MORE than £5,000 has been raised to support a cause trying to make sea swimming and surfing accessible to all.
At the start of June, three members of the Adsurf team set off to tackle the South West Coast Path, walking from Land’s End to Bude to raise money to help support making surfing accessible to more people.
Established in 2022, Adsurf is a charity which aims to provide an inclusive experience for everyone who wants to feel the benefits of the sea and surfing, by providing accessible and adaptive surfing to people with disabilities, mental health conditions and neurodiversity.
Cyril Cox, founder and head coach of Adsurf, is joined by fellow Adsurf coach Bodhi and friend Leon on the journey. Camping along the route, the trio have covered hundreds of miles while raising awareness and vital funds to support Adsurf's work helping people with disabilities access the ocean through adaptive surfing.
The trio hope that the trek will both highlight the accessible things the North Cornwall Coast has to offer and further fund the charity’s base in Bude, providing people with accessible surfing sessions.
As part of their challenge, the team have also been visiting beaches and coastal towns across Cornwall's North coast to assess the accessibility and locations of the beach wheelchairs, highlighting the importance of inclusive access to the coastline.
Having set themselves a fundraising target of £5,000, the group has smashed that, raising over £5,450 to date
Having completed their journey, landing back in Bude on June 12, the trio are still hopeful that even more can be raised for this important local case.
