WOOLSERY Show is a traditional one-day agricultural show which is held at Clovelly Court on Monday, July 28, starting at 8.30am.

It promises to offer a full day of events to delight, entertain and enjoy for all of the family.

A spokesperson for the Woolsery Show organisers said: “We have the most beautiful setting for our show overlooking Bideford bay.

“Horse classes start at 8.30am and livestock classes at 9.00am. We have five rings so there is a lot of activity across the showground.

“The main ring attractions will be early horse classes, carriage driving, fancy dress on ponies for the children. The team relay is always a crowd pleaser, a team is made up of three competitors, a runner and dog go first, then two team members on horseback.

“They compete two teams at a time on an identical course of fences and gates, which must be opened to go, over, through and closed behind them all against the clock, it gets very exciting. Then on come the heavy horses, foxhounds and concours d’elegance (riders in costume depicting any era of history). Horse championship followed by the Grand Parade and our wonderful vintage vehicle display to close the main ring events.

“In the four other rings we have cattle, sheep and horses all competing for the top prize. From 12.30pm in Ring 5 we have the showjumping competition.

“Elsewhere on the showground there are the Horticulture, Cookery and Handicraft marquee where exhibitors are all hoping to win those coveted prizes. Not to forget the Food & Farming marquee which will be filled with the best of local produce.

“The dog show is always popular, and dogs compete for such classes as the one with the waggiest tail and the one the judge would like to take home. Entries are taken on the day for the dog show.

“Lots of lovely trade stands and food outlets, not forgetting the beer tent.

“Children’s entertainment too and don’t forget to see all the sheep and cows and you may be lucky and see a cow being milked or a sheep being sheared.

“If you are intending on coming to the show, please be aware that the site is uneven underfoot. Here’s hoping for a dry day!
