BUDE Bowling Club’s 87th annual presentation evening was held on Saturday, October 28 at the Brendon Arms.

President Sue Plumstead welcomed members and guests along with guest of honour — former Bowls England President, Mike Jennings and his wife Katherine.

Grace was said by Dorothy Gardiner before president Brian Wonnacott proposed the loyal toast after the meal.

Sue proposed a toast to Bowls England, which Mike responded to by first congratulating Denis and Zena Haydon on their recent diamond wedding anniversary before presenting Denis, Colin Vickery and Tim Ford with badges awarded by the county to bowlers who have celebrated their 80th birthdays. He then spoke about his involvement with the sport’s governing body, Bowls England, explained about the move of the headquarters from Worthing to Leamington Spa and talked of the hope that Birmingham will be chosen as the venue for the 2022 Commonwealth Games as the bowls events could then be held at Leamington.

Sue then thanked Mike for giving up his time to attend the dinner and congratulated all the members for their successes during the season and thanked the staff of the Brendon Arms for the lovely meal. Ladies’ captain Cynthia May presented Katherine with an orchid before Mike was asked to present the trophies.
