BOND TIMBER CORNWALL CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION TWO EAST
Bude v St Austell Seconds
BUDE have a 13-point gap to make up on third bottom Menheniot-Looe as St Austell Seconds left Crooklets with a convincing eight-wicket success.
The hosts chose to bat on a spicy pitch and lost Matt Williams for seven as he edged youngster Hayden Coad behind.
Wayne Adams made an excellent 42 before being run-out following a mix-up with skipper Warren Rumble (20), but the hosts found the going tough against the three-pronged off-spin attack of Gianluca Longo (1-35), James Carter (1-15) and Ben Carter (0-32).
Rumble soon followed trying to smack Longo into the leg-side, and when Dylan Grinker was stumped off Carter for eight, it was 110-4.
Matt Whitefield made a patient 23, but some much-needed momentum was provided by Andrew De Rosa as he struck 39 from 41 balls to give them half a chance on 171-8.
Bude’s bowling has struggled all season and soon saw Steve Raven (30 off 28) tuck into the short straight boundary.
He eventually departed when he holed to Harry Dymond at long-off off Richard Dymond, but the Saints could take their time.
De Rosa sent down nine overs for just 27 and Dymond took 1-18 off his five overs, but James Carter (68no) continued on his merry way.
Archie Connolly managed to cue-end a low full-toss from David Sillifant (1-30 off 6) to Adams at mid-on, but Longo – dropped from the first team – joined Carter and eased his way to 49 not out off from 51 balls.
Carter survived a couple of strong lbw shouts from Williams (0-36 off 7), but the Saints were comfortable winners to leave the Seasiders with plenty to ponder.
Bude have a tough test this Saturday as they visit runaway leaders Wadebridge Seconds (1pm).
