Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League Division Three East round-up – Saturday, August 2

TINTAGEL moved up to second following a nine-wicket victory at strugglers Callington Thirds on Saturday and Saltash’s 197-run drubbing by South Petherwin.

Callington – led by James Moon’s 82 – made a competitive 216 all-out at Liskeard’s Lux Park with Jack Minehan (2-22), Harry Daly (2-43) and Tom Parsons (2-11) sharing six wickets.

Skipper Matt Jolliffe dropped himself down to three was part of an unbeaten double-century stand of 201 with Parsons who cracked the bowling to all parts in his 114.

He struck 16 fours and four sixes, while Jolliffe’s 75 contained 14 fours and one maximum.

South Petherwin did Tintagel a favour as a virtuoso performance from Paul Clements gave them a 197-run success at Saltash.

Petherwin were in big trouble at 33-4 after an early going over from Dave Bolland (4-25), but reacted superbly as Clements’ 52 provided the glue for Adrian Clements (26), Adam Creasey (77 off 44) and skipper Jacob Masters (40no off 36) to help them reach 245-8.

Clements’ inswingers then proved too much for Saltash to handle as they were dismissed for just 48, that after openers Justin Hemmings and Dan Snowdon) put on 29.

Clements (5-14 off 9) and first change Masters (3-8 off 5) shared eight wickets before Owen Barnes struck with his first ball.

Petherwin still have an outside chance of finishing second, sitting 19 behind.

Bottom side Launceston grabbed a third win with an eight-wicket success over mid-table Ladock at Lawhitton.

Ladock were far from full strength and batted sensibly to reach 166-5 as David Cox took 2-18 from his nine.

Mark Thomas (61) and Dan Tilley (76no) then made half centuries in the chase as the winning runs came in the 35th over.

However, Launceston are still 21 points adrift of third bottom Callington with four games remaining.
