LAUNCESTON Seconds slipped closer towards the bottom two after failing to beat their Luckett counterparts at Lawhitton in Division Five.

The struggling visitors made 206-2 as Mike Clements (48no) and Steve Brown (35no) built on the platform from Tom Rickard (50) and Ian Roberts (39).

Launceston were going well at 166-5, but Glyn Hutchings’ departure for 58 slowed the momentum despite 30 from Indy Worth as they closed on 198-8. Brown (3-27) and skipper Gareth Clements (3-32) shared six wickets.

Holsworthy Seconds are still 34 points from safety despite hammering Newquay Thirds.

An injured Jack Greening (69) and Rob Mitchell (86) both made half centuries in their 261-7, before Newquay were held to 150-9 with Brodi Wonnacott (2-25) and Dan Lucas (2-27) starring.

In Division Six East, skipper Rich Watson made 165 not out in South Petherwin Seconds’ 236-run victory at Grampound Road Thirds.

James Cawsey also added 114 in their 345-5 before Emma Barnes (2-19) and Martyn Stenlake (2-8) got some reward.

Juby Johnson made 30 as Bude Seconds were dismissed for just 103 at Saltash Twos who knocked it off for two, while Ben Jarram struck 108 in Tintagel Seconds’ successful chase of 237 at home to St Austell Fourths. Earlier, Ollie Ansell (3-77) and Kane Hartland (2-41) shared five wickets.

St Minver Seconds defeated Werrington Fourths by three wickets.

Left-arm spinner Nigel Hocking took 5-25 as Werrington were dismissed for just 124, Grace Kirby (28) and Ralph Hodgson (20) passing 20. Vivaan Sharath (5-37) then put the hosts in a spin, however St Minver were led home by Phillip Kent’s 40.

In Division Seven, Launceston Thirds lost by seven runs at Tideford Seconds despite Bradley Rutter’s 5-. Only Iain Thain (39) and Lucas Davey (25) got going in their 122 all out.
