BOND TIMBER CORNWALL CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION TWO EAST

Tintagel v Werrington Seconds

WERRINGTON Seconds can look forward to another year in the third-tier after thrashing Tintagel by 108 runs at Butts Field.

Jason Seldon’s side had come into form to clamber away from the bottom two, and they put on a near faultless team performance against their mid-table hosts.

Werrington raced to 137-1 with Rob May (29), Marley May (46) and Toby Ward all in the runs, the latter smashing eight fours and four sixes in his 59 from 36 balls.

However, once again it was Gyles Reynolds (4-34) that brought the hosts back into the contest, taking three quick wickets.

Ward went to Aussie Leo Agacy as the visitors slipped to 156-5, however a superb 64 from 54 balls (five fours, five sixes) from Zander Zambuni changed the momentum once more as he found support from Hugh Tomkinson (14) and Seldon (10) to accelerate the score to 271-9. Left-arm spinner Matthew Pethick took 3-36 from seven overs on his first appearance of the season.

Tintagel chose to chase, but struggled from the outset.

Skipper Matt Jolliffe went for just a single to left-arm spinner Sam Smeeth (2-44) before Jordan Burnard was run-out.

Agacy and Ryan Pooley put on 38, but when Agacy (25) picked out Zambuni off Darren Webber (2-26) and Pooley (18) edged the same bowler to Rob May at slip, the visitors were in dreamland.

Adrian Pooley went for nought to the excellent Seldon before wicketkeeper Sam Abbott and Australian seamer Jack Minehan (30) gave the hosts hope.

Minehan found Ward off Dan Jenkin, and although Abbott was 61 not out at the end, wickets fell as they were dismissed for just 163, Seldon taking 3-25 against his home club.

Werrington host leaders Wadebridge Seconds this Saturday while Tintagel have a trip to strugglers Menheniot-Looe (both 1pm).
