THE World Football Golf Association (WFGA) has announced that Cornwall Football Golf Park at St Austell will host the WFGA World Championship in 2027.

The tournament, to be held on May 20-23, is expected to bring 300 competitors from across the world to Cornwall to compete for the world title.

The competition is returning to the course off Trenowah Road after the success of the 2019 world championship.

Cornwall Football Golf Park manager Lauren Bennett said: “I’ve no doubt that we will put on an unforgettable weekend for the players that travel from far and wide to join us in Cornwall. I think it’s great for the local area too, these players will all need somewhere to stay, and I’m sure they will be well up for soaking up some Cornish culture whilst they are here. The care and attention that our grounds team put into the course is second to none, and we are very proud that our course gets the chance to shine on the world stage once again.”

Course owner Angelee Robinson said: “The 2019 world championship was such a memorable weekend for us, it really was a festival of sport and friendship. The opportunity to host this tournament again and do it bigger and better than before is exciting for the whole team here.”

WFGA board member Stefan Taubenberger from Germany, who is responsible for the development of football golf around the world, said: “Since joining the WFGA, it was one of my top priorities to bring a tournament back to Cornwall. Personally, I have never played there, but nearly everybody who took part in the 2019 world championship told me it was the best course they had ever played. So to enable the next generation of football golfers to share this experience is something I am looking forward to.”
