Launceston Cup semi-final

Altarnun 5

St Breward 0

TOM Hancock scored twice as Altarnun eased into the Launceston Cup final with a 5-0 victory over fellow Duchy Premier outfit St Breward at Pennygillam.

The Nuns were 2-0 up at the break before Adam Porter, Hancock and Jack Swanson’s superb free-kick made it five.

Altarnun were amongst the favourites for promotion before the league season was curtailed, and they led after three minutes as Hancock took Sam Smith’s cute pass in his stride and found the bottom right-hand corner from 15 yards.

Ben Nurse denied Smith and the impressive Charlie Wevill, before Altarnun doubled their lead on 18 minutes as Danny Moore’s free-kick from the left touchline was headed in by an unmarked Brad Stokes.

It took half an hour for St Breward to register a shot as Josh Caddy’s chip was blocked by keeper Matt Heynes.

Stokes had a header cleared off the line by Jack Holt, before St Breward made a double change on 32 minutes as Scott Thompson and Adam Bennett came on for Nathan Jasper and Rob Marks.

The rest of the half became scrappy, although Nurse again got down well to deny Smith.

The tie should have been all over four minutes after the break when Wevill was sent through by Cameron Heard, but as he went to pull the trigger, it bobbled, and the chance went awry.

He did, though, win a penalty on the hour when he was brought down by Holt, and Porter sent his spot-kick down the middle to make it 3-0.

It was 4-0 just two minutes later as a lovely interchange between Josh Smith and Swanson in their own half sent Smith bearing down on goal. He unselfishly squared it to Wevill whose shot was blocked, but the rebound was lashed in by Hancock.

Stokes nearly scored a superb overhead kick which hit the bar before an outstanding bit of quality meant it was 5-0.

Swanson stepped up to take a free-kick nearly 30 yards out, and placed it straight into the top right-hand corner.

The Nuns played the rest of the game out with a minimum of fuss ahead of the final against Boscastle who were given a bye after Southgate Seniors pulled out due to fixture congestion.
