BRADWORTHY ensured they took home the bragging rights as they left neighbours Morwenstow with a 2-1 victory in the North Devon League Premier Division on Saturday.

The Greens had won the reverse fixture earlier in the season by the same scoreline, but it was the visitors that took the lead inside five minutes as skipper Callum Johns found the net with a looping shot from 25 yards.

Morwenstow gradually grew back into the contest and levelled five minutes before the break as Mason Tape fired home from the edge of the box.

However, in front of a healthy crowd at Shop Playing Field, it was Bradworthy that got on top in the second half despite Ben Walter being forced into a brilliant one-on-one save. They won it when the home keeper failed to deal with a ball into the box, allowing Tudor Placinta to slot into an empty net from 10 yards.

The result leaves Morwenstow third with six wins and five defeats from their 11 outings, while promoted Bradworthy are fifth having won four and drawn three of their eight games.

Second bottom Holsworthy, who had beaten basement side Fremington Reserves 4-0 the week before, had the afternoon off.

The two Post area sides in the Senior Division also met, but nothing could separate Shebbear United and Putford after a 2-2 draw.

Sheb, with one win all season, netted through frontman Chris Wildern who has rejoined the club from Holsworthy, and Arthur Wood, while the visitors, who are third bottom, saw Gary Clarke score twice as they kept the gap between the two sides at four points.

Holsworthy Thirds picked up a fine 4-1 success at Appledore Lions Reserves in Intermediate One courtesy of Logan Flanders, Rory Piper, Austen Lewis and Jayden Brownjohn, while in the same division, in-form Morwenstow Reserves were edged out 2-1 at Merton with David Hales the scorer.
