SOUTH WEST PENINSULA LEAGUE PREMIER WEST
Wendron United 2 Camelford 2
TEN-MAN Camelford were held to a 2-2 draw at Wendron United on Saturday despite easing into an early lead.
The Camels made the long trip west off the back of a 3-0 victory over Dobwalls a fortnight earlier and were boosted by the return of skipper Tom Cowling at left-back, while Andy Boxall was pushed right forward on to the left flank.
On a typically excellent playing surface at Underlane, the Camels took the lead on five minutes as Shae Cardiff’s cross from the right was put in at the back post by a sliding Boxall.
The Camels continued that momentum and doubled their lead 10 minutes later as after taking a pass from Boxall, Ryan Downing found the far corner from 18 yards.
Midway through the half the hosts pulled one back via a hotly-disputed penalty from Ryan Reeve for a push by Dan Hocking, and Wendron were given a helping hand five minutes before the break as Tom Crowe went for a loose ball and caught a home player, earning a straight red card.
But in the second half, although Camelford understandably had to defend well, they gave away little bar the equaliser just after the hour from Cam Quirke.
However, the Camels, who saw player/coach Bobby Hopkinson introduce himself with 15 minutes to go, created chances at the end, none more so than a near carbon-copy of their opener as sub Cam Bidgood’s cross from the right was met by a sliding Boxall, but this time he could only hit the post.

Camels’ man-of-the-match: Andy Boxall.
