SOUTH WEST PENINSULA LEAGUE PREMIER WEST (SATURDAY)
Camelford 4 Bude Town 0
CAMELFORD continued their perfect start to the season with a convincing 4-0 victory over an under-par Bude Town at Trefrew Park.
The Camels had seen off St Day (4-0) and Sticker (1-0) in their previous two outings, and boss Bobby Hopkinson made one change from the Sticker game four days earlier as Cam Bidgood was preferred on the right wing to Joseph Parr.
Bude headed down the A39 off the back of an impressive 0-0 draw with leaders Callington and manager Steve Hackett changed two as Ruan Tape came into the midfield, while Dave Youldon – usually a defender – was deployed as a target man.
With a strong wind around, Camelford won the toss and chose to use it to their advantage first up.
The opening 10 minutes were relatively quiet with both sides looking to play when possible, before the Camels took a 12th minute lead.
Bude looked to play a quick free-kick but after man-of-the-match Jacob Ham intercepted, Ryan Downing lobbed the ball in from 30 yards.
Camelford were the better side and doubled their advantage just after the half-hour as Ryan Downing’s inswinging corner from the left was headed into the top corner by Andy Boxall.
The Seasiders needed to regroup but went into the break 3-0 down with another poor goal to concede.
Bidgood’s inswinging free-kick from wide out on the right was tapped in at the near post by an unmarked Ross Beare.

Bude were improved after the break and as expected had much more of the ball, but failed to seriously test Josh Colwill at the other end.
Rowe also had a relatively quiet second half, but the Camels grabbed a fourth five minutes before the end as Ham played a pass between the lines before parr advanced into the box and got a shot away which was deflected off a defender and in.
Camelford saw the game out comfortably as Bude’s wait for a first win goes on.
A disappointed Steve Hackett told the Post: “We started well and were comfortable for the first 10 minutes, but once they scored we fell apart and couldn’t do anything right.
“We couldn’t gain a foothold, couldn’t create any chances or string many passes together.
“Too many players had off days which was incredibly disappointing after the excellent performance against Callington.”
Camels boss Bobby Hopkinson felt his side were worthy winners.
He said: “I set the challenge to the boys to get seven points from these three home games, so to get nine is really pleasing.
“It was a game of two halves with the wind factor and we chose to make first use of it by trying to get ahead.
“We knew if we could score a couple before half-time it’d be tough for them and so it proved as we could just sit in.”
