SOUTH WEST PENINSULA LEAGUE PREMIER WEST

Holsworthy 1 St Day 1

THE Magpies were left frustrated by their inability to take their chances as strugglers St Day left Upcott Field with a share of the spoils.

The home side had a host of players on holiday while skipper Jedd Peschke failed to recover from a leg injury suffered against Bude eight days earlier.

St Day had the wind behind them in the first half but struggled to create much, while at the other end, both Jay Thomas and Ben Sharpe twice had decent chances, but struggled to hit the target.

Within 10 minutes of the restart the Yellows took the lead with a moment of brilliance from … He cut in off the left before placing a finish into the top corner to give Ryan Chadwick no chance.

Aiden Slade soon had a goal ruled out for offside in response, and boss Kevin Squire, who had to go on up front late on, switched to a back three.

They did get their reward with 15 or so to go when striker Craig Duff found the bottom corner following Thomas’ corner.

Squire thought he’d rolled back the years in injury-time as he headed home a Ben Sharpe cross. However, the referee adjudged it to have been a foul to the frustration of the home players and supporters.

Elsewhere in the division, Launceston were beaten 3-2 by visiting Elburton Villa despite Lee Robinson’s brace either side of half-time.

The Clarets led 2-0 but Villa, now guaranteed to be runners-up, roared back with Connor Rush getting the first on the hour.

The hosts held out until the 85th minute when Rush equalised, and that provided even more momentum for the Plymothians to grab a winner which arrived three minutes later through former Saltash United forward Sam Hughes.
