Bude Town 3 Shamwickshire Rovers 1
BUDE set up a home tie against holders Torridgeside or Fremington in the second-round as they saw off North Devon League Premier Division side Shamwickshire Rovers 3-1 at Broadclose Park on Tuesday night.
The hosts, who had the previous weekend off, struggled early on and fell behind when a long ball forward from the back wasn't dealt with and it was finished superbly from the edge of the box.
But despite Harry Hopcroft stinging the hands of the keeper, Dylan Morgan seeing an effort cleared off the line and a couple of other half chances not quite falling into place, Shammy went into the break 1-0 up.
Jake Gilbert, who plays most of the time for Morwenstow, was introduced in the first half for the injured Billy Hopcroft and went on to change the course of the game.
After the hosts started the second half far better, some patient play ended with the ball finding Gilbert on the edge of the box who made no mistake on 47 minutes.
The turnaround was complete just after the hour when a corner was met by Gilbert for 2-1.
The third arrived 10 minutes from time when Harrison Swatton’s dangerous ball was finished at the far post by Ryan Hodge.
There was still drama for the hosts to overcome as after Aled Thomas was sent-off for two yellow cards, Aaron White was sin-binned for giving a penalty.
However, Ty Rowe made a superb save down to his right as Bude ran out 3-1 winners.
