North Devon Football League latest round-up

MORWENSTOW bounced back to form on Saturday with a convincing 3-0 success over Torridgeside Reserves at the Shop Playing Field on Saturday.

The Greens had been beaten 4-2 at Appledore Lions seven days earlier, but a dominant second-half display proved key.

Morwenstow started brightly, with Finn Reeve driving forward on the left and Corrick Davies a constant threat on the right, while Torridgeside had a few moments on the break.

Skipper Will Bryant’s long throw created the opener, with Phil Horton producing a perfectly-placed looping header into the far corner.

Davies added the second when man-of-the-match Reeve played a superb defence-splitting pass to send him clear, and he rounded the keeper before doing the rest.

Davies then turned provider, picking the ball up on halfway before twisting and turning through the defence and squaring for Jake Gilbert to take a touch and calmly finish low into the corner.

Bradworthy and Holsworthy Reserves both had the afternoon off.

In the Senior Division, Putford’s tough start continued as despite scoring four times at home to visiting Shamwickshire Rovers Reserves, were well beaten.

Shammy netted seven times themselves – including five from Joseph Barker – to counter home goals from Liam Martin (2), William Richards and Tommy Tudor.

Morwenstow Reserves’ superb start to the season in Intermediate One shows no sign of slowing down after a 4-1 victory at previously unbeaten Braunton Thirds.

After a goalless first half, veteran David Hales led the way with a brace, while Michael Dolan and Tom Shadrick were also on target for the Greens who have yet to drop a point after five matches.

Winless Holsworthy Thirds continue to score plenty, but their inability to keep the back door shut cost them at home to Equalizers who left with a 4-3 win.

The Magpies’ scorers were Thomas Glessing, Rory Piper and Charlie Vile.
